Direct Definition: An OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) shift tracker is a standardized spreadsheet that calculates the product of machine Availability, Performance efficiency, and Quality yield to measure true manufacturing productivity.
Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is the gold standard metric for measuring manufacturing productivity. A machine running at 100% speed that produces 20% scrap is just as inefficient as a machine sitting idle with a broken drive motor.
The Three OEE Factors
This template breaks shift performance down into three fundamental percentages: Availability (operating time divided by planned production time), Performance (actual output compared to ideal design cycle speed), and Quality (good parts produced divided by total parts).
Targeting the Six Big Losses
Logging shift data highlights whether productivity losses stem from equipment breakdowns, long setup adjustments, minor pauses, reduced operating speeds, startup scrap, or in-process defects.
